The Affair - a Lie or a Truth?

 Sathvik Das

A tall guy, dressed in black, with a puma cap enters the Cafe. His eyes search for Arushi, I assume. He move towards her. Rohit Kashyap is here. The way he approaches her doesn't seem fine to me. It's more like he's begging to her. They communicates for sometime. I watch from far, as Arushi directs me. Through their gestures of talking I realise Rohit haven't attacked upon Arushi, rather he's the one whose eyes filled with hope while her's filled with coldness.
I receive e text from Anu. "She's not the one you are thinking her to be. Come immediately to the district Police Station nearby. I am waiting with my colleague."
I panick. I know that something's fishy. But what exactly is wrong. The curious cat within me hopes that Arushi tells me everything. I want to know the truth.
Should I leave Arushi with this rascal Rohit or should I go to Anu? I am really confused.

I plan to go to the police station. I message her - "There's an important meeting. Boss wants to see me right now at his place. Please update me with everything. I have payed the boy who served you coffee to watch on Rohit. You can trust him."

She reads the message and looks at me with confusion. I nod my head with our eyes fix at each other. She understands.

I hurry to the police station. Anu has been waiting for me with her colleague. She introduce me to Vaisakhi. "Vaisakhi's dad is a cop here. We have successfully find out everything regarding Arushi Roy. Come let's go to him."
A man aged around 45 greets me. He asks us to come inside the cabin. He directs us to seat.
"So, as my daughter narrated the whole thing to me, I completely understood. The department has been searching for her everywhere. Thank you so much aaplog aye and reported, we can catch her red handed now. There are many evidence against her."
"Inspector, I don't really get it. Is she a criminal? I mean why haven't you done anything then?" I ask.
"Becuase dad was waiting for the correct time. So that she won't deny in the police interrogation." Vaisakhi replies.
"Exactly. She isn't has a real identity. She's been taking the identity of Arushi Roy who has been raped allegedly one year back. The person behind the rape is her only. Her real name is Roshni Shah. She planned to rape Arushi because of a conflict, which I don't know about as we haven't got the chance to interrogate Arushi. She's in coma."
"And Roshni's living the life of Arushi. I have met her last month as a flatmate. I didn't know much about her family. She just told that they support her a lot. Never have I thought I have shared a flat with a crooked girl." Adds Anu.
"I don't know much about the relationship that Roshni Shah and Rohit Kashyap share. But I have evidence that Rohit too is a drug smuggler. Maybe, they have met because of their own business. Or they are planning to get a victim for the case so that they could puppet you Mr. Das."
"And how is this so? You mean she would convince me for an attempt to murder of Arushi Roy as I have started dating her. Ohh my God, was she planning to get into a relationship with me and then getting a full fledged fake murder of her, whom everyone knows as Arushi Roy?"
"Absolutely sir. Well you are good at it. You can join the police department here.." He smirked. It's a nice joke.
I couldn't believe. The girl that I have been falling for slowly turned into a massive blunder committed by me. A beautiful girl with a dark mind and cruel heart. She have her own reasons behind every single step she takes. Was everything a lie? Haven't she loved me?
"So what are we waiting for. Kindly get the arrest warrant against Roshni Shah asap!" - Anu literally yells.
"That's right sir. We are with you. Just tell us what we should do?" I manage to speak out.
"I know it will be hard for you. I can understand." - Inspector Anand console me.
He knows about everything thats happening between me and her. Sometimes people get confuse. All of a sudden everything falls apart. We don't admit the fact that there's a lie hidden in every truth we say. Nobody's so genuine in this world. Maybe, whatever have happened, it did happen for good only. God plays well sometimes to show what's truth and what's not. But the worst thing we as a human being do is "Blame God every fucking time!"
............

It has been six months since the incident occurred. Anu and me along with Insp Anand really tried hard and finally accomplished to arrest Roshni. After Roshni have been brought behind the bars, Rohit committed suicide two days later. Maybe he is equally responsible for the rape case. But, coward enough to face to cops. Anu and I became really good friends since then. Working together have resulted in a loss of love but gaining a great friend. We catch up sometimes.
And me? Huh...what's there to change! Same like before, having a great elaichi Chai at Rajesh Bhai's Chai Tapri.
"Bhaiyya, shadi ka baat pakki ho gyi."
"Aree...wah! I will definitely attend the wedding."
Whatever we lose, or get...at the end our satisfaction matters. This is what most people forget. To be satisfied. With work, relationship, life...etc. People always search for peace and truth in this bezaar duniya. Maybe, I have learned a lot. And still learning. Never ever trust anyone easily. Remember, the person who can make you, can break you even more.
"Jo v ho...I won't install a dating app in my life." I laugh. Hard.

The End.
