The Unplanned Meet

 The Unplanned Meet

"Hi, is the chair occupied?," a significantly serious looking face approached me. Well, the weather was perfectly soothe. I was having a "me" time with my coffee in the leftmost corner of the coffee house. I had been a little pissed off as I always wanted my personal space. "Yes, please!", I directed him for a seat. Unfortunately, I didn't want to! But....the rest were all full.

I concentrated on my coffee. Sipping slowly, the boiling espresso, which I would have probably enjoyed if the geeky guy wasn't present there.

He had ordered a Indian Cardamom tea and immediately logged in to his laptop. I was relieved. Atleast I didn't had to indulge into a communication. Well you can be perfectly clear by now, that I wasn't a social person. I preferred to stay more with myself. He interrupted my thoughts with another question, "Hi, I am Ajoy. IT is what I slogg the whole day...and what about you?"

"Umm...hello. Taniya. And IT is not at all my cup of tea." I had no clue what I said. I didn't even think if he would be offended at this. "Haha! Nice one...." And guess what? He didn't. Uff relief! I really felt awkward initiating conversations with unknowns. Still I managed to ask,"Slogging now?" He replied directly with his eyes fixed on the laptop screen "Absolutely!"

There was a huge silence for the next five minutes. The waiter broke while serving the cup of tea, "Here's your cardamom tea, Sir. Would you need anything more? Or your ma'am?" I controlled my laughter. I could sense the discomfort of Ajoy.

"No...nothing. Thank you so much!" He left.

Ajoy instantly reacted, "What the hell? I mean we have just met!" I laughed. Really hard. He adjusted his spectacles. His eyes lifted from  the screen and looked at me. Probably he was watching me laugh...Men will be men. Whatever.

He smiled. "So, you working here?"

"No...I just came here for a vacation! Passed a few stressful days in my hometown."

"Aaha. Lucky you are! We ITs almost skipped the word "vaccation" from  our lives though."

"Okay. So what you do all day? Apart from Slogging?" I didn't know why I initiated the conversation. Usually I didn't do so. Maybe I wanted to....or...never mind.

"Hmm...Slogging for 6 hours and then finally have my "leisurely time" with a bottle of beer, sometimes sitting, playing a little with the stocks and then sleep. A typical boring life." He was  still typing while interacting. Cool, I thought.

"You live here?"

"No...accommodation! Family doesn't care about me except the finance that I provide from my salary."

"Alright."

He sipped. He typed. And yeah, always adjusting his specs.

"What about you?" (Showing a little interest)

"Hmm...Administrative work. Managing and stuffs. I write though....when I get some time."

"Uh-huh great! So how's been the vaccation here? Enjoying Gauhati?"

"Kind of! Pollution sucks. But the thing I like about here is people don't care. Everyone minds their own businesses."

He looked at me with a bit of curiosity. "Are you pulling my leg? Haha! Cause I'm continuously indulging in random conversations with you?"
"Ohh...sorry. No, not at all. I didn't mean that...." He interrupted me with a laughter.
"So where are you staying here? I mean how many more days. We can meet sometime if you don't mind." He said casually.
And I started thinking...."Can a married woman hang out with a stranger she met probably an hour ago?"
